So, many of you read in our last blog we were spending some time with family for the past couple weeks and then heading out to the Keys to finish off our first road trip. Had a great time with my mom and uncle in Sarasota, and finished it off with a week in Ft. Lauderdale with my Grandparents.
Oh my god, can’t forget about our snake experience in Port St. Lucie. So one day we took a drive up from ft. Lauderdale to Port Saint Lucie area to visit some of our friends and coworkers. Stuffed our faces at this place called the Hopcat, which was a night of spills and thrills as we had a new hire waitress taking care of us that night. Anyways, enjoyed some food and cocktails and then headed off to a place called The Vine & Barley for a beer and some local music. The musician was great! We were entertained by this super talented chick named Victoria (IG: @victorialeighmusic). She was nice enough to take allllll of Brooke’s music requests for covers and she absolutely killed it! During all the fun Brooke gets off her seat, backs away, and turns and looks at me. I’m like “everything okay?”. She looks at me in the calmest voice and says, “snake👇”. I look down and there’s this
Now for the exciting part, the Keys! Left Ft. Lauderdale at around 11 AM and slowly made our way south. Drive felt long but wasn’t too bad considering all the other driving we had done on this road trip already. After about 3 hours of driving, we made it to Marathon, Fl. When we booked this spot at Jolly Roger RV for the week we honestly didn’t know what to expect. We took what they had available and hoped for the best. Luckily we got an awesome spot central to everything and just feet from the water.
Over the next couple days we noticed a lot of people fishing out on the dock at our resort. We decided to get ourselves some rods and give it a go. Brooke at first wasn’t excited about fishing but, I’ll tell you now, she’s obsessed. She got herself a Disney Moana kids fishing pole thinking it would just be for a little fun, nothing serious. You can not imagine how many fish she caught with that little rod over the week. She pulled fish after fish after fish out of that water. I couldn’t believe it, and I don’t think she could either! She caught Pinfish, Cowfish (hate them, little savages of the sea), Mangrove Snapper, and Needlefish. Some nights while were fishing we saw tarpon, sharks, and stingrays. Brooke spotted a 7ft Nurse Shark one night! Not to mention those same waters we spotted all the fish and sharks was just feet away from the same water they designate for their swimming area. Let’s just say we did not swim at our resort, at all.
It has been super hard at times having the dog with us because unfortunately there are not a lot of dog friendly places or beaches in Florida. However we were lucky enough to have a few nearby that allowed bailey to run around in the sand and ocean every day. We went almost every evening to watch the sunset at Coco Plum Beach. One evening we actually got to watch a couple Kite Board! Since we were the only two on the beach at that hour they kept coming by and doing tricks right in front of us. (Pics and video)
On our way into the islands we drove past this place called Theatre of the Sea. It’s basically a smaller version of Sea World, a much much smaller version. Took a day over the weekend to go check it out. It’s $40 for general admission but you can also swim, play, and touch some of the animals for additional costs. You could play with sea lions, dolphins, parrots, and even pet and feed a sea turtle. We decided to pass on all the extras and enjoyed that general admission. The really cool part of the park is that it had a rotating schedule where as soon as you’re done seeing one show you head on over to the next arena and see another show. They all flowed one into the next which made it so easy to enjoy it all.
The rest of the weekend we planned to venture down to Key West. One day we decided to kayak through the mangroves and explore some small islands. Another day we raced down just in time for sunset. Of
All in all, we had an incredible time and plan to go back. The food was amazing, the sites were literally breathtaking and the people were absolutely kick ass everywhere we went.

Note to any aspiring Roadtrippers, this entire experience went in a direction we never planned for. We expected an experience totally different but got way more than we bargained for. We took some losses but gained so much more from all we have experienced. No matter the weather, wherever, whenever, make the best of everything. Live life without any expectations because it will take you to unexpected destinations.
